While shepherds in an eastern land
Did guard their flock by night,
There came an angel unto them
And flamed the hills with light.
The startled men he thus addressed:
"Fear not and still your mind,
For joyful news I bring to you
And to all humankind,
"The Saviour of this world, the Christ,
The Holy Lord of all,
This night is born in Bethlehem
And cradled in a stall,
And there you'll find the tiny babe
Wrapped warmly from the cold,
The precious infant, holy One
As promised us of old."
Thus spoke the Seraph unto them -
And instantly a throng
Of angels filled the sky above,
And raised their voice in song:
"To God be praise and glory now;
Let peace enfold the world!
To God be praise and glory now;
Let peace enfold the world!"
